Practice

Presenting the Gospel is the most important part of anything we are doing. Yet, for most of us, presenting the Gospel is the part we never practice. A professional athlete practices regularly. Even though they are the best at what they do, they still practice. No matter how many times you have presented the gospel, how successful you have been, or how much theology you know, you can still benefit from practicing a presentation of the gospel. With a partner, work through the following activity.

A Gospel Opportunity

The Set-up

Susan/(Sam if a male is needed) is a 3rd grader who has attended VBS in many locations multiple times. Today, at the end of the lesson, the teacher asked if anyone wanted to accept Jesus [1]. Susan raised her hand. You have now taken Susan aside. What will you say to get the conversation moving? How will you present the Gospel? How will you prod the student to make a decision?

  • Work together to role-play the scenario. Remember that children rarely give the answer you expect and be prepared to steer the conversation back to the Gospel.

  1. Note: this is not an endorsement of this type of questioning strategy. In fact, for a non-christian this type of language can be confusing. What other ways of asking the same question might you use?
