Objectives

  • Teachers will leave with a schedule that identifies specific people on their instructional team who are responsible for each time slot.
  • Teachers will have practiced delivering the gospel at least once.
  • Teachers will have a list of expectations for them each day of VBS, expectations for decorating, and expectations for planning.

Main Body

Introductions/Warmp-up (5 minutes)

  • Have the VBS workers group together based on teaching units.

Planning (10 minutes)

  • Take a copy of the VBS schedule for your class. Go through that schedule and write the person's name who is responsible for each time slot on the schedule.
  • As a class, discuss any special needs that you have for that time slot.

Presenting the Gospel (20 minutes)

ABCs

RBP has placed an emphasis on the ABCs of salvation. The emphasis is well placed and the following is a verbatim copy of what RBP states on their posters.

  • Admit that you are a sinner.
    • We are all sinners; we all do wrong things (Romans 3:23). God is perfect. He must punish sin (Romans 6:23). We cannot get to heaven by trying to be good (Ephesians 2:8,9). God showed His love for us by sending His Son, Jesus, to die for us (Romans 5:8).
  • Believe who Jesus is and what Jesus did.
    • Jesus is God's Son Who came to earth and was the only One ever to live a perfect life. He died on the cross to take the punishment for sin. He was buried and rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:3,4). God promises eternal life to all who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31; Romans 6:23).
  • Choose to trust in Jesus.
    • Believe that Jesus, God's Son, took the punishment for your sin. Trust Jesus as your Savior, knowing that He is the only way you can have your sin forgiven and become a child of God.

Using the ABCs

Expectations (10 minutes)

  • Plan to be ready to interact with children at 8:30 each morning. This means that if you have copies to make etc. these should all be done before 8:30.
  • Workers should wear pants, no-shorts.
  • We will ask students to use Mr., Mrs., Ms., when referring to leaders (including teens). You can choose to use your first or last name.
  • There is a sign-up sheet for the carnival. Class directors should not sign up for anything because course directors should be making an effort to spend a significant amount of time interacting with parents during the carnival.
  • Plan your schedule to allow you to stay until 12:30 each day so that you can participate in the wrap-up meeting at the end of each day.

Conclusions

  • What do you need from us in order to be ready?
