Lesson
Introduction (5 minutes)
Friendly Competition
Set-up
- As students enter place them onto two different "Archeology Teams" give a minute or so for each team to come up with a name.
- Sand container with "artifacts"
Activity
- Tell students something like the following. We often think of archeology as finding documents or swords, or buildings. But a lot of archeology is finding old garbage. In fact, some of the most useful archeological sites have been town garbage pits.
- Teams race to the sand container and find an artifact then race back.
- The team which finds an artifact for every player first wins.
Preview (5 minutes)
- Read the following verses and ask students something like "how would you feel if you knew this was going to happen to you?" "Would you try to change the future?"

Serving
- Jesus was a servant through and through and aimed to serve people. Look at what we find him doing in John 13:2-5.
- I think it would be soo hard to wash someone's feet. But what would be even harder would be to wash the feet of someone you knew was going to betray you. Look at what we read in John 13:21.
Abandoned
- Now it would be hard to be betrayed but it was even worse for Jesus. Not only would Judas betray him, but his close friend Peter was going to abandon him. Look at John 13:38.
Betrayed
- That same night Jesus was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane and look what happens in John 18:1-4.
Willing
- In John 18:4 we learn that Jesus knew all of this was going to happen but he still chose to obey what the Father had ordered.
Arrested
- Now look at what happens to Jesus in John 18:12-14.
Denied
