Joshua 1:1-9 Leadership

  • Who do you consider to be the greatest leader?

  • What was it that allowed that individual to be such a great leader?

  • What are the characteristics that society identifies in a good leader?

The Background

In this lesson series we will be looking at the book of Joshua. Before looking at Joshua it is important that we first establish some background.

  • Who had led the Israelites out of Egypt and during their time in the wilderness?

  • Why was Moses prevented from entering the promised land (Numbers 20:1-13)?

  • What event took place in Deuteronomy 34:1-8?

  • Who succeeded Moses as the new leader of the Israelites (Deuteronomy 34:9-12)?

Thinking

  • If God is merciful, why do you think He punished Moses so severely?

  • What challenges do you think Joshua faced as the new leader of Israel?

  • What challenges would the people of Israel face as they entered the promised land?
