Lesson

Introduction (5 minutes)

Blind

Set-up

  • Lay out a path on the floor using masking tape to mark off the path. The path should be more than just a straight line but include some turns.
  • Swim goggles painted black on the inside to make it impossible to see.
  • Disinfectant spray.

Activity

  • Ask for two volunteers, one volunteer with follow the path, the other will give directions. For a younger audience a leader may follow the path while the whole class tries to give directions.
  • The individual following the path will put on the goggles (blindfold) and try to complete the path while the other individual tells them directions. The rest of the class can try to give bad directions and distract the two.
  • Ask "How hard was it to listen to directions with all the distractions."
  • Was it hard to find your way when you could not see?
  • Say "Today we are going to learn about a man who was born blind, but he didn't stay blind. After meeting Jesus his whole life changed and he went from blind to seeing."

Body

  • When an archeologist goes to a dig site they spend days tirelessly searching for even the smallest nugget. When they come across something they call it a "find" today we are going to dig into God's word and I want you to help me identify some "finds".
  • Tell the story of John 9 in your own words but on occasion reading specific passages from Scripture. Key texts are suggested.
    • John 9:1
    • John 9:6-11
